Release of Winlator 7.0, an environment for running Windows applications on Android

The release of the Winlator 7.0 Android application has been published, providing a wrapper over Wine and the Box86/Box64 emulators for executing Windows applications on the Android platform. Winlator deploys a Linux environment based on Ubuntu with Mesa, DXVK, D8VK, Vkd3d, and CNC DDraw, where Windows applications compiled for the x86 architecture are run on ARM devices with Android using the emulator and Wine. The project's code is distributed under the MIT license. The APK package size is 251 MB.

In the new version of Winlator:

  • Included is the vkd3d package with Direct3D 12 implementation, working through call translation to the Vulkan graphics API.
  • An experimental WoW64 mode has been added (Container Settings -> Advanced Tab), allowing 32-bit Windows applications to run on 64-bit systems.
  • Updated versions of Wine and Box86/Box64.
  • Fresh versions of the Turnip drivers (Qualcomm Adreno GPU), Zink (OpenGL implementation over Vulkan), and VirGL (virtual GPU Virgil3D for QEMU/KVM) have been transferred from the Mesa codebase.
  • Input management has been improved and stability through XInput has been enhanced.
  • Task manager has been improved.
  • Container settings have been expanded (CPU binding, FPS display, GPU name, Windows components, and environment variables).
  • An option for logging has been added.
  • Performance optimization has been conducted.
