The developers of the Xfce project have released a significant version of the Xfce Terminal emulator 1.0.0. This new release has been prepared by a new maintainer who took over the development after the project was left without support in 2020. The program's code is written in the C language and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
This release is also notable for changing the version numbering scheme. Experimental releases will be formed under the 1.1.x branch, based on which a stable release 1.2.0 will then be made. In the case of significant changes, such as porting to GTK4, or after gradually reaching the 1.9.x numbering, a 2.0 branch is planned.
Among the changes in the new release:
- The scrolling performance during output (the 'Scrolling on output' setting) has been improved, which now automatically turns off for a time when the user starts scrolling up.
- Support for floating scrollbars has been added.
- A menu item has been added to send signals to processes.
- The options ‘—tab’ and ‘—window’ have been redesigned.
- A full fill mode (the 'Fill' setting) has been added for displaying background images.
- The dialog that appears when attempting to paste data from the clipboard with unsafe escape sequences has been redesigned. An option to disable such warning messages has also been added.
- The ability to change the behavior of right-clicking has been provided.
- Support for a shortcut editor has been added.
- There is more seamless integration with the Xfce environment through the use of the XfceTitledDialog class and client-side window decoration.
