The release of the zeronet-conservancy project version 0.7.8 has taken place, continuing the development of the decentralized censorship-resistant network ZeroNet, which uses Bitcoin's addressing and verification mechanisms along with BitTorrent distributed delivery technologies for website creation. Website content is stored in the P2P network on visitors' machines and verified by the owner's digital signature. The fork was created after the original developer of ZeroNet disappeared, aiming to maintain and enhance the security of the existing infrastructure, user moderation, and a smooth transition to a new, secure, and fast network.
0.7.8 is an unplanned release issued due to delays in the significant version 0.8 and the accumulation of enough changes. The new version includes:
- .bit domains have been moved to the deprecated category: redirection from the .bit domain to the actual site address has been implemented along with a freeze on domain registration.
- Copying peers in the sidebar has been improved.
- The startup script has been enhanced.
- Handling of command line options has been improved.
- The ability to add/remove sites from favorites in the sidebar has been implemented.

The only safe methods of installing ZeroNet at this time are: installing from the source code of one of the active forks, installing the zeronet-conservancy package from the AUR repository (git version), or Nix. Using other binary builds is currently unsafe as they are based on a version published by the developer '@nofish', who disappeared almost two years ago.
