Widelands is a real-time computer strategy game released under the GNU GPL license. Its gameplay and some ideas are similar to The Settlers and The Settlers II.
The game supports single-player and multiplayer modes, includes several campaigns, standalone scenarios, and a built-in editor.
Key Changes:
- UI Plugins that allow adding new user interface features;
- Naval Warfare (disabled by default): invade enemy shores with warships!
- garrison of soldiers for ports and headquarters;
- economic balance changes for Amazons;
- the fifth scenario for the Frisians campaign;
- expanded game settings, such as customizable duration for victory conditions;
- diplomacy management for computer players;
- ability to attach notes to points on the map;
- hyperlinks allow navigation through the encyclopedia and access online help;
- simple map publishing directly from the editor;
- high-resolution sprites for many units;
- enhancements for many user interface elements;
- extended functionality for addons and script interface;
- many crashes and hangs fixed, error handling improved.
In version 1.2, translations into the following languages have been fully completed:
- Catalan;
- German;
- Hungarian;
- Low German;
- Russian.
Translations into eight other languages have been completed by more than two-thirds.
