Western Digital has announced the relatively inexpensive WD Blue SN500 NVMe SSDs suitable for desktop and laptop use.
Products comply with the NVM Express (NVMe) specification, which describes access to SSDs using the PCI Express bus (in this case, PCIe Gen3 x2). Compared to SATA solutions, this provides faster read and write speeds and lower latency.
New items are made in the form factor M.2 2280: dimensions are 22 × 80 mm. 3D NAND flash memory microchips and own controller are used.
The WD Blue SN500 NVMe SSD series includes two models - 250 GB and 500 GB. Both have a sequential reading speed of up to 1700 MB/s. The sequential write speed is 1300 MB / s and 1450 MB / s, respectively.
As for the recommended retail price, it is stated at $55 for the junior version and $78 for the older version.
