The marathon of Windows 10 launches on various devices continues. This time, enthusiast Bas Timmer from the Netherlands, known by the nickname NTAuthority, managed to run the desktop OS on the OnePlus 6T smartphone. Naturally, this is about the version for ARM processors.
The specialist described his developments on Twitter, posting brief messages with photos and videos. He noted that the system was installed and even launched, although it ultimately crashed to the 'blue screen of death.' NTAuthority jokingly referred to his OnePlus 6T as the 🙁 Edition.
After the initial failure, Timmer was finally able to launch the Windows command line on the smartphone. The enthusiast noted that Windows 10 recognizes input from the touchscreen. This is possible thanks to the Samsung AMOLED display with a Synaptics controller, which is also used in touchpads on many laptops available on the market. In other words, the system quite 'understands' input from the touchscreen.
It remains unclear how much time will be required for a more or less complete launch of Windows 10 on the smartphone, but the mere fact that such a possibility exists indicates that these issues can be solved. Naturally, proper drivers for all devices will be needed, and the software is likely to lag, considering that not all software has yet been written for ARM. But the groundwork has already been laid.
Additionally, we note that earlier another enthusiast managed to run a desktop operating system on Google's Pixel 3 XL smartphone.
