Two weeks after the release of version 9.8, the Wine project, which allows Linux and macOS users to run Windows applications, has released a new version — Wine 9.9.
The main new feature in this version is the support for the new Wow64 mode in ODBC (Open Database Connectivity). This enhancement increases compatibility and makes Unix calling parameters compatible with Wow64.
Additionally, Wine 9.9 includes improved CPU recognition on ARM platforms. This ensures smoother and more efficient application performance by optimizing resource usage across different types of hardware.
The release notes also mention the removal of several deprecated functions in WineD3D, a component of Wine that translates DirectX 3D graphics calls into OpenGL in real time. However, the specific removed functions are not listed.
