Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) plans to begin production of 64-layer 3D NAND memory chips in the second half of this year. Industry sources report that YMTC is currently negotiating with its parent company, Tsinghua Unigroup, trying to obtain permission to sell storage devices based on its own memory chips.
It is known that in the initial phase, YMTC will collaborate with Unis Memory Technology, which will handle the sales and promotion of solutions based on 3D NAND chips. This includes SSDs and UFC drives that will utilize memory chips developed by YMTC. Despite this, YMTC's management believes that the company has the right to sell its own storage devices with 64-layer memory chips.
It was reported that the Chinese company YMTC is set to launch mass production of 64-layer memory chips in the third quarter of 2019. It is also known that Longsys Electronics has shown interest in manufacturing '100% made in China' solid-state drives and has already signed a partnership agreement with Tsinghua Unigroup last fall.
It should be noted that YMTC was founded in 2016 by the state-owned enterprise Tsinghua Unigroup, which currently owns 51% of the manufacturer's shares. One of the shareholders of YMTC is the National Investment Fund of China.
