Kaspersky Lab has revealed a new wave of attacks targeting financial and telecommunications companies based in Europe.
The main goal of the attackers is to steal money. Moreover, cybercriminals are trying to steal data to gain access to sensitive financial information.
Investigations have shown that the criminals are exploiting a vulnerability in VPN-solutions deployed in all attacked organizations. This vulnerability allows them to access data from the administrator accounts of corporate networks, thereby granting access to valuable information.
It is reported that the attackers are aiming to steal tens of millions of dollars. In other words, in the case of a successful attack, the damage could be enormous.
Despite the vulnerability being discovered as early as spring 2019, many companies have yet to implement the necessary update," says Kaspersky Lab.
During the attacks, the attackers gain data from the administrator accounts of corporate networks. This subsequently allows access to valuable information.
