Rescuezilla 2.3 backup distribution release

The release of Rescuezilla 2.3 distribution is available, designed for backup, system recovery after failures and diagnostics of various hardware problems. The distribution is built on the Ubuntu package base and continues the development of the Redo Backup & Rescue project, the development of which was discontinued in 2012. Live builds for 64-bit x86 systems (846MB) and a deb package for installation in Ubuntu are offered for download.

Rescuezilla supports backup and recovery of accidentally deleted files on Linux, macOS and Windows partitions. It automatically searches for and mounts network partitions that can be used to host backups. The GUI is based on the LXDE shell. The format of the created backups is fully compatible with the Clonezilla distribution. Recovery supports Clonezilla, Redo Rescue, Foxclone and FSArchiver images.

Major changes:

  • Switched to Ubuntu 21.10 package base. Additionally, an alternative LTS build based on Ubuntu 20.04 continues to form.
  • Added support for verifying the integrity of backups.
  • Added "rescue" option to control ignoring bad sectors and errors generated by the file system.

  • Improved image scanning process.
  • Added lxappearance package to make it easier to enable dark theme.
  • Added an option to the context menu to run the file manager as root.
  • The "xdg-open" utility is used to launch the file manager and browser, instead of directly launching pcmanfm and Firefox.
  • Added translation into Russian.
