Release of qBittorrent 4.4 with support for the BitTorrent v2 protocol

More than a year after the publication of the last significant branch, the release of the qBittorrent 4.4.0 torrent client is presented, written using the Qt toolkit and developed as an open alternative to µTorrent, close to it in interface and functionality. qBittorrent features include: integrated search engine, RSS subscription option, support for many BEP extensions, web-based remote control, order-by-order sequential download mode, advanced settings for torrents, peers and trackers, bandwidth scheduler and IP filter, interface for creating torrents, support for UPnP and NAT-PMP.

In the new version:

  • Added support for the BitTorrent v2 protocol, which moved away from using the SHA-1 algorithm, which has problems with the selection of collisions, in favor of SHA2-256 for controlling the integrity of data blocks and for records in indexes. The libtorrent 2.0.x library is used to work with the new version of torrents.
  • Added support for Qt6 framework.
  • Added new settings such as bandwidth limit, notification timeout and hashing_threads options for libtorrent.
  • Sending announcements for all trackers when changing the IP address is provided.
  • Added tooltips for different columns in the interface.
  • Added context menu to switch tab columns.
  • Added "Checking" status filter to the sidebar.
  • In the settings, the last viewed page is remembered.
  • For monitored directories, the ability to skip hash checks is provided ("Skip hash check" option).
  • When double-clicking, viewing of torrent options is implemented.
  • Added the ability to link different directories with temporary files for individual torrents and categories.
  • Added support for themes, categorized in different directories.
  • The search widget now has a context menu and increased the number of loading modes.
  • The web interface provides the ability to navigate through tables and catalogs using the cursor keys. The main tab has an indicator of the progress of operations.
  • For Linux, installation of vector icons is provided.
  • The build script implements OpenBSD and Haiku OS definitions.
  • Added experimental setting to store fastresume and torrent files in SQLite DBMS.
