Beta port of Far file manager available for Linux, BSD and macOS

The far2l project, which has been developing the port of Far Manager for Linux, BSD and macOS since 2016, has moved to the beta testing stage, the corresponding changes were made to the repository on January 12. At the moment, the port, described on the project page as a fork, supports both console and graphical modes, the colorer, multiarc, tmppanel, align, autowrap, drawline, editcase, SimpleIndent, Calculator plugins have been ported, and its own NetRocks plugin has been written, which is an analogue of NetBox based on the libraries common in *nix distributions; written plugin for writing plugins in Python language with code examples. The developments of the project are distributed under the GPLv2 license.

Of the latest changes added to far2l recently, we can note the “hybrid input” mode, in which, in order to recognize keyboard shortcuts in the console mode, not only characters are analyzed in the terminal, but also the keyboard is simultaneously polled through the X11 server. This type of input makes it possible to distinguish, for example, the “+” key on the small numeric keypad, and the “+” key on the top row, to which the “=” symbol is also associated. This mode can also work via ssh using the "ssh -X" option (you will need to install the libx11 and libxi libraries on the server side). In addition to full support for all keyboard shortcuts required by Far Manager, integration with X11 allows you to use the "X" clipboard in the console.

Other important changes include the removal of code that is license incompatible with Debian as part of the deb package work for Debian. There are also portable builds of far2l for linux distributions based on amd64, i386, aarch64 architectures that work on shared hostings with ssh access support, where it is not possible to install your own package or build far2l from source.

Separately, it is worth noting the recently created fork of the KiTTY ssh client with support for far2l terminal extensions. These extensions allow you to use all keyboard shortcuts and the common clipboard when working with far2l from Windows. There is also an unofficial Russian-language telegram chat for the project.
