NetworkManager 1.34.0 release

A stable release of the interface is available to simplify network settings - NetworkManager 1.34.0. Plugins to support VPN, OpenConnect, PPTP, OpenVPN and OpenSWAN are developed within their own development cycles.

Key innovations in NetworkManager 1.34:

  • A new nm-priv-helper service has been implemented, designed to organize the execution of operations that require elevated privileges. Currently, the use of this service is limited, but in the future it is planned to rid the main NetworkManager process of extended privileges and use nm-priv-helper to perform privileged operations.
  • The nmtui console interface implements the ability to add and edit profiles for establishing connections through VPN Wireguard.

  • Added the ability to configure DNS over TLS (DoT) based on systemd-resolved.
  • nmcli implements "nmcli device up|down" command similar to "nmcli device connect|disconnect".
  • Deprecated Slaves properties in D-Bus interfaces org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Device.Bond, org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Device.Bridge, org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Device.OvsBridge, org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Device.OvsPort, org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Device.Team, instead of using the Ports property in the org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Device interface.
  • For bonded connections, support for the peer_notif_delay option has been added, as well as the ability to set the queue_id option to select the TX queue ID for each port.
  • The initrd generator implements the “ip=dhcp,dhcp6” setting for autoconfiguration via DHCPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously, and parsing the rd.ethtool=INTERFACE:AUTONEG:SPEED kernel parameter to configure autonegotiation of parameters and select the interface speed.
