The latest part of BioShock is BioShock Infinite 2013. In 2014, she received the Burial At Sea expansion, and that's it. The continuation of the franchise is engaged in the newly formed studio Cloud Chamber. How сообщаСт Kotaku editor Jason Schreier, the development of the new BioShock has been going on for two years, and today's announcement is forced, because this way you can attract experienced specialists to the team.

Cloud Chamber is 2K Games' first Canadian office and the first studio in the company's history to be run by a woman. The division is led by Kelly Gilmore with 22 years of experience in the gaming industry. The bulk of her career has been with Firaxis Games, developer of the Civilization strategy series.

β€œOne of the most exciting things about starting a new studio is being able to put diversity [of gender and race] at the forefront of our culture,” Gilmour said. "We're very focused on finding the most talented game developers from all walks of life to bring out the next amazing BioShock."

β€œI'd like to be a role model for other developers, but it's ultimately up to them,” she said. β€œI am passionate about my work and dedicated to building a world-class developer studio that puts people first and is a great place to work every day.”

While there are no details about the next BioShock - the publisher emphasized that the game will be in development over the next few years. Cloud Chamber's announcement message is littered with bold promises like "creating yet-to-be-discovered worlds" and "pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the video game environment."

But Cloud Chamber has a free hand - and the studio can embody almost any entourage that it wants. While the first two games limited the series to Rapture's famous underwater setting, Infinite and its finale expanded the BioShock mythology far beyond what was shown. But Gilmour can't tell what environment the team has chosen this time around.

"We can't go into depth with our development plans yet, but we can agree that storytelling in any BioShock is a popular and widely discussed topic for fans and critics alike," she said. β€œOur team is very focused on this aspect and is ready to deliver another powerful story. Creating the next BioShock game is a big responsibility. The great thing is that there are many directions that we can consider. Listening to the thoughts of everyone - including our fans - remains important in shaping our vision for this game."

It's worth noting that series creator Ken Levine is not involved with the project as he and his studio, Ghost Story Games, are focused on their own vision for the future of storytelling games. But a number of developers who played key roles in the creation of previous BioShock games have joined Cloud Chamber. These include: creative director Hoagy de la Plante, who worked on the environments for the first BioShock and was the lead environment artist on BioShock 2; art director Scott Sinclair, who held the same position at BioShock and BioShock Infinite; and design director Jonathan Pelling, BioShock designer and creative director of BioShock Infinite.

In addition, according to Gilmour, the team also has employees who have worked on the biggest AAA franchises, including Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Star Wars and Battlefield.
