3000 rubles: a fine has been determined for Twitter in the context of a data localization case

Twitter, as well as the social network Facebook, is in no hurry to transfer personal data of Russians to servers located on the territory of the Russian Federation. The corresponding requirements came into force on September 1, 2015.

As Roskomnadzor previously reported, Twitter and Facebook have still not provided the necessary information about the localization of personal data bases of Russian users on Russian territory. In this regard, administrative violation protocols were drawn up against the companies.

However, the now imposed fine is unlikely to scare Twitter: the amount of the penalty for an administrative violation is only 3000 rubles.

It is not yet clear whether the named companies are going to transfer the personal data of Russians to servers in our country. In case of a categorical refusal, services may simply be blocked. This fate has already befallen the social network LinkedIn.
