Qualcomm expects 6D.ai to provide better spatial awareness for Snapdragon VR headsets currently in development
βThe 3D world model is the next platform on which the applications of the future will run,β says 6D.ai CEO Matt Miesnieks. βToday, we are seeing this happening with businesses of all sizes across industries that are looking to create spatially aware applications that go beyond AR to include different services based on the userβs location in space, and in the future the same technology will be used for drones and robotics. Today, developing our business model and partnering with Qualcomm Technologies is the first of many steps we are taking to build a XNUMXD map of the world of the future.β
Qualcomm Technologies and 6D.ai will work together to optimize 6D.ai tools for Snapdragon-powered XR devices, taking advantage of advanced computer vision and artificial intelligence to enable developers and device manufacturers to create immersive applications that blur the line between real and virtual world.
βPowered by AI and 5G, the XR platform has the potential to be the next generation of immersive mobile computing,β said Hugo Swart, senior director of product management and head of XR at Qualcomm Technologies. β6D.ai expands our capabilities by creating 3D maps of the world and thereby helping to create a future in which XR devices fully understand the real world, which in turn will allow developers to create next-generation applications that can recognize, interpret and interact with the world, in which we live."
In addition, 6D.ai recently announced a beta version of its Android toolset, which will allow users of applications built on 6D to work with the same 3D model created with their phone on multiple devices at any given time. According to 6D.ai, any application that is released on the company's platform before December 31 will be able to use their SDK for free for three years.
Currently, thousands of developers are already testing and building applications that directly interact with the real world using the 6D.ai platform, including companies such as Autodesk, Nexus Studios and Accenture.
In the video below, you can see how the 6D.ai application works, creating a real-time 3D model of the company's office.
