Hell's 5 Days: Ubisoft Added All Side Quests to the Original Assassin's Creed at the Last Moment

Many players criticized the first Assassin's Creed game for its lack of variety. But things could have been worse, because the original final build didn't have all the secondary entertainment. Game programmer Charles Randall (Charles Randall) spoke about this, recalling the most nightmarish event in his life, related to work.

He noted that the idea to add side quests arose at the very last stage, literally before sending the game to gold. She appeared after the child of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot (Yves Guillemot) played an action game and said that he was boring, and there was simply nothing to do in the game except to complete the main tasks.

After that, the authorities came to Mr. Randall and stated that they needed to add a bunch of side tasks to the game, and all this should be done in 5 days. In addition, it had to be done without new errors, because after that the assembly would be written directly to disks and sent to retail.

After thinking, Charles Randall agreed, demanding a separate room for himself and 4-5 assistants. They were given full use of the main meeting room of an excellent building in Montreal, which usually could only be entered with a special card. Computers of specialists were also moved there. These days, only the team that worked on the "side effects" for the game had access - no one else was allowed into the room.

The developer also wrote: β€œIn any case, everything that followed I remember vaguely, but I know that everything went very well, because we did it. We managed to complete the task in 5 days. No errors...almost. Those who have tried to get the full 1000 player points in Assassin's Creed know that there was one bug that sometimes made it impossible to complete all Templar kills - you had to restart the game to try again. The error was caused by the following. It turned out that one of the Templars was tied to the wrong sector. If the player approached it from the wrong direction, it fell through the world and never reappeared. This did not count as a kill, but marked the Templar as dead in the save. So yes, if you had to play AC multiple times to get the maximum game score or whatever, sorry. But I don't really remember what happened in that five-day period. All I know is that it's a miracle the game didn't melt your console or something."

Charles Randall also admitted that these five hellish days could have caused another error in Assassin's Creed, when a duplicate of the main character Altair appeared on the PlayStation 3 when a second controller was connected. He also noted that for such hard work it was necessary to ask not for a separate closed room, but for a lot of money.
