Age of Empires IV will be friendlier to newbies thanks to "analytical learning"

Впервые shown at the X019 festival this month, the Age of Empires IV strategy game is designed not only for fans of the series, but also for newcomers. In an interview for PCGamesN Series creative director Adam Isgrin noted that friendliness to inexperienced players will manifest itself in many features, one of which will be training based on “analytical tools.”

“We're tailoring the game for newcomers in different ways,” Isgreen said, noting that he couldn't reveal details yet because they directly relate to the intricacies of the campaigns (they are kept secret). — I can say that we are doing something completely new, which has not been seen in any part of the series. I’m actually not sure that in any existing game you can see what we create for the [Age of Empires IV] campaigns.”

Among other things, developers are “harnessing” the computing power available to them to create “learning analytics tools.” According to Isgreen, the game will track the user's actions and point out useful opportunities that he is missing. “We can now use systems like this that were not available before to attract newcomers,” he said.

The leader also said that the fourth part will feature the “Art of War” missions, present in the recent re-release of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. As it turned out, these special tasks, including those designed to teach users how to act in non-standard situations (for example, when an opponent attacks at the very beginning of the game), were created for Age of Empires IV. “I’m adamant about the importance of training,” Isgreen said. — It was I who asked to add such missions to [Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition]. And this is just the beginning. […] In Age of Empires IV, civilizations are more distant from each other, and the Art of War quests will help you better understand their characteristics.”
