AirPods Pro in Danger: Qualcomm Launches QCC514x and QCC304x Chips for TWS Noise Canceling Headphones

Qualcomm has announced the release of two new chips, QCC514x and QCC304x, designed to create true wireless earphones (TWS) and capable of offering high-end features. Both solutions support Qualcomm's TrueWireless Mirroring technology for a more reliable connection, and feature dedicated Qualcomm Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation hardware.

Qualcomm TrueWireless Mirroring technology processes phone connections through one earbud, which then mirrors the data to the other, reducing the amount of data synchronization required for a reliable connection.

Another important feature of the new chips is Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (Hybrid ANC) technology. It will allow even relatively affordable headphones to offer active noise cancellation along with the ability to turn on the mode of broadcasting sounds from the external environment.

While the Qualcomm QCC514X offers always-on voice assistant support, the QCC304X relies on button-press activation of smart assistants. The company says the new chips are more energy efficient and also promise extended battery life.

With Qualcomm's new chips able to bring voice assistant and active noise cancellation even to entry-level headphones, we can expect a strong growth in TWS headphone offerings that can offer the high-end features of more expensive models like the Apple AirPods Pro.

The company plans to begin shipping these new chips to manufacturers starting next month. Qualcomm said it expects new products based on these SoCs to hit the market in the second quarter of 2020.
