Joel's voice actor Troy Baker has high hopes for an HBO series based on the game. According to him, the multi-part adaptation suits the story much better than Naughty Dog's screenwriter and VP Neil Druckmann's original plan to make a feature-length film.

“I think with episodes you can tell this story much more effectively because trying to condense this 16 hour plot into 2 hours is impossible […],” he said. According to Troy Baker, three or four seasons can fully reflect the plot of The Last of Us, and the series itself will provide an opportunity for a large number of people to get acquainted with the history of the game - because not everyone is ready to pick up a gamepad.

Despite high hopes for an adaptation, Baker remains confident that nothing compares to the original game - because the interactivity and involvement gives a different, powerful experience. “Nothing will replace this. But I think we can get closer. We can give a different experience for those who - for whatever reason - do not want this kind of interaction with the characters, ”he added.
The HBO series based on The Last of Us has yet to receive a premiere date. At the same time, Naughty Dog will soon release a sequel to the game. The Last of Us Part II will be available on June 19 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
