Alpha release of LibreOffice 7.2

Alpha testing of the LibreOffice 7.2 office suite has begun. For Linux, Windows and macOS, ready-made builds have been prepared that can be used to install side by side with stable releases of LibreOffice. The release is expected on August 18 or 19.

The most notable changes:

  • Added initial support for GTK4;
  • Removed OpenGL based rendering code in favor of using Skia/Vulkan;
  • Added a pop-up interface for searching settings and commands in MS Office style, shown over the current image (heads-up display, HUD);

  • Writer has added support for hyperlinks in tables of contents and indexes, improved work with bibliography, implemented a new type of fields "gutter" to add additional indents, the ability to place a background image both in the visible boundaries of the document and in the boundaries of the text;

  • Improved font caching for faster text rendering;
  • Import and export filters have been improved, many bugs have been resolved when importing and exporting WMF / EMF, SVG, DOCX, PPTX and XLSX formats;
