Amazon, Google and Baidu hold more than half of the global smart speaker market

Strategy Analytics has estimated the size of the global market for smart speakers with intelligent voice assistant in the second quarter of this year. In the context of a pandemic and self-isolation of citizens, the industry continued to increase sales.

Amazon, Google and Baidu hold more than half of the global smart speaker market

Approximately 30,0 million smart speakers were sold globally between April and June inclusive. This is 6% more than in the first quarter of the year, when shipments were 28,3 million units.

The largest player in the market is Amazon with a 21,6% share. In second place is Google: this IT giant took 17,1% of the industry in the second quarter. Bronze went to Baidu - 16,7%.

Together, these three vendors control more than half of the global smart voice assistant speaker industry.

Strategy Analytics notes that Chinese suppliers have started ramping up shipments of smart speakers after a weak first quarter, suggesting a gradual recovery in the market after the coronavirus hit. At the same time, American developers still continue to experience the impact of the pandemic. Experts predict an improvement in the situation following the results of the current quarter.
