Amazon buys thermal imaging cameras from blacklisted Chinese company

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Amazon online retailer has gained thermal imaging cameras to measure the temperature of their employees from the Chinese company Zhejiang Dahua Technology. Everything would be fine, but according to Reuters sources, this company was blacklisted by the US Department of Commerce.

Zhejiang Dahua Technology shipped 1500 cameras to Amazon for about $10 million this month, one source said. According to another source, at least 500 Dahua systems are intended for use by Amazon in the United States.

However, Amazon did not violate US law with this purchase, since the ban applies to contracts between US government organizations and blacklisted firms, but does not apply to sales to the private sector.

However, the United States believes that transactions of any kind with listed firms are cause for concern. According to the recommendations of the Bureau of Industry and Security under the US Department of Commerce, US companies need to be careful in this case.

Due to a shortage in the US due to the coronavirus pandemic, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that it will not ban the use of thermal imaging cameras that are not approved by the federal agency.

Amazon declined to confirm the purchase of cameras from Dahua, noting that it uses cameras from multiple manufacturers. These include Infrared Cameras and FLIR Systems, according to Reuters.
