AMD: the impact of streaming services on the gaming market can be judged in a few years

AMD in March of this year confirmed its readiness to cooperate with Google in creating the hardware basis of the Stadia platform, which implies the streaming of games from the "cloud" to the widest range of client devices. Notably, the first generation of Stadia will rely on a combination of AMD GPUs and Intel CPUs, with both types of components coming in "custom" configurations not offered to other customers. Before the end of the year, Google should adopt the first 7nm EPYC processors, so cooperation with the search giant in terms of hardware will be as complete as possible.

AMD representatives have already admitted that it will take years to unlock the potential of Stadia, and the cloud platform will not begin to have a significant impact on the gaming market right away. Rival company NVIDIA has been developing its own platform for broadcasting games GeForce NOW for a very long time, it is with its help that it hopes to attract the next billion gamers to its side. The development of 5G communication networks is closely related to the prospects for the spread of such platforms, and NVIDIA is not going to give way to competitors in this new market segment.

AMD: the impact of streaming services on the gaming market can be judged in a few years

When talking about the expansion of "cloud" gaming platforms, it is customary to talk about the expansion of the total gaming market due to new users who cannot afford game consoles or high-performance desktop PCs. From this point of view, manufacturers of computer components are not yet very concerned about "internal competition." However, on a quarterly reporting conference the head of AMD Lisa Su (Lisa Su) urged not to rush to conclusions and wait at least a few years, watching the development of such services. For AMD, the current trend is good in that its products with the Radeon architecture will be registered in gaming PCs, game consoles, and cloud solutions. The company set itself the task of making the Radeon architecture as friendly as possible to all segments of the gaming market. And to make predictions that the spread of streaming gaming services will interfere with sales of discrete graphics cards is still premature, the head of AMD is convinced.
