In the first quarter of this year, the rise in popularity of AMD GPUs in the server segment not only helped raise the company's profit margin, but also partly offset the sluggish demand for gaming graphics cards, of which there are still a lot of stocks in stock after the cryptocurrency market downturn. Along the way, AMD representatives noted that cooperation with Google as part of the Stadia cloud gaming platform is very encouraging for the company, and interaction is ongoing with a number of other similar projects.
At the company's fiftieth anniversary gala dinner, CTO Mark Papermaster was asked about the possibility of APUs for server applications. In vague terms, Mark made it clear that for the changing nature of server computing workloads, you cannot create a combination of GPU and CPU that would be universal. By and large, these words can be interpreted as a rejection of the idea of creating a server processor with integrated graphics. AMD's CTO simply believes that the combination of discrete GPU and CPU provides more flexibility. On the other hand, Lisa Su herself does not completely reject such an idea.

Lisa Su did not avoid questions about the company's financial policy. She noted that AMD's priorities are investing in the needs of the business, as well as servicing its own debt. Other ways of spending funds, such as buying back their own shares, are of less interest to the company. By the way, as it became known from AMD's quarterly announcement, by the end of March the company had significantly reduced its debt obligations. In addition, the amount of free cash reached its highest value in the last two years - $1,194 billion.
Lisa Su also spoke about the possibility of taking over the assets of third-party companies. If they do occur, they will aim to complement the company's technological capabilities. In this sense, the current head of AMD does not deviate from the policy of his predecessors: the purchase of ATI in 2006 was intended to provide a synergistic effect from the merger of assets in the field of computing and graphics.
Representatives of Nomura Instinet after visiting AMD's anniversary event admitted that even in the absence of sensational announcements about the upcoming premieres, the company demonstrates confidence in the ability to increase its market share, revenue and profit over the next few years. This proved to be quite enough to return AMD shares to a moderate increase in price after the first two days of May.
