AMD officially unveiled the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor. It will go on sale on April 22, and the company has not announced pricing. The chip was announced by Jack Huynh, head of AMD's graphics division. This is the first desktop Ryzen processor with dual 3D V-Cache memory chips.

The chip is built on the Zen 5 architecture and offers 16 cores with support for 32 virtual threads. AMD emphasizes that the processor's total cache is 208 MB, which is more than any other desktop Ryzen.

The company also announced that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 has a boost frequency of 5,6 GHz, which is 100 MHz lower than the Ryzen 9 9950X3D model with a single 3D V-Cache die. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 has a stated power consumption of 200 W. The boxed version of the processor will be shipped in a discreet black and white package.

AMD is positioning the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 for more than just gaming. Internal tests show that the new chip delivers superior performance in workloads (applications) compared to the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. The company claims a performance boost of up to 7% in benchmarks like V-Ray and Blender, a 5-7% increase in content creation tasks, and a performance boost of up to 13% in SPEC Workstation scientific tests.
