AMD will introduce Ryzen 4000 (Renoir) on Tuesday, but is not going to sell them at retail

The announcement of desktop-oriented Ryzen 4000 APUs with integrated graphics will take place next week - July 21. However, it is assumed that these processors will not go to retail, at least in the near future. The entire family of desktop Renoir will consist exclusively of solutions designed for the business segment and OEMs.

According to the source, the lineup of Ryzen 4000 hybrid processors, which is going to be announced by AMD this coming Tuesday, will consist of six models. Three models will be classified as PRO series: they will offer 4, 6 and 8 processing cores, integrated Vega graphics, a set of "professional" security features and a 65W thermal package. The other trio of models will be among the energy-efficient solutions with a thermal package of 35 W: it will also feature models with 4, 6 and 8 cores and Vega graphics core, but clock speeds will be noticeably lower.

The expected formal characteristics of the Renoir family for desktop systems are as follows.

APU Kernels / threads Frequency, GHz Vega cores GPU frequency, MHz TDP, W
Ryzen 3 PRO 4250G 4/8 3,7/4,1 5 1400 65
Ryzen 5 PRO 4450G 6/12 3,7/4,3 6 1700 65
Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G 8/16 3,6/4,45 8 2100 65
Ryzen 3 4200GE 4/8 3,5/4,1 5 1400 35
Ryzen 5 4400GE 6/12 3,3/4,1 6 1700 35
Ryzen 7 4700GE 8/16 3,0/4,25 8 1900 35

The Ryzen 4000 APUs are gaining a lot of interest among enthusiasts, although they are based on last year's Zen 2 microarchitecture. Due to their monolithic design, these processors provide higher Infinity Fabric frequencies and are more sympathetic to memory overclocking. As the results of preliminary tests that are leaking online show, the computing performance of the eldest member of the family, the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G, may be comparable to Ryzen 7 3700X.

However, one cannot count on the appearance of such processors in wide sale yet. With the release of the Renoir family of desktop processors, AMD is going to solve a completely different problem. With their help, she wants to shake Intel's hegemony in the OEM segment, where processors with an integrated graphics core are in the first place.

Since the beginning of this year, the Renoir processor design has been used in AMD's Ryzen 4000 series of mobile chips, which are widely used in modern laptops. Such processors are built on the Zen 2 architecture and are equipped with a Vega graphics core. Their production is carried out at the facilities of TSMC on a 7-nm process technology. In the desktop segment, AMD currently offers the Picasso family of APUs based on the Zen+ architecture. When Renoir desktop processors will become available to the mass consumer is still unknown.
