Analysts: the first iPhone with 5G will be released no earlier than 2021 and only for China

In the middle of this month, Apple and Qualcomm were able settle disputesrelated to patent rights. As part of the signed agreement, the companies will continue to work together in the development of devices that support fifth-generation communication networks. This news gave rise to a rumor that a 5G version of the iPhone could appear in the Apple giant’s lineup as early as next year. However, the analytical company Lynx Equity Strategies casts doubt on this possibility and claims that the first Apple smartphones with support for fifth-generation networks will debut no earlier than 2021, and even then at first they will be sold only in the Chinese market.

Analysts: the first iPhone with 5G will be released no earlier than 2021 and only for China

Analysts have noted that in the United States, interest in 5G is concentrated mainly in the corporate segment and smart city systems. In the consumer sector, the demand for 5G devices, according to Lynx Equity Strategies experts, is not yet so high that it makes sense for Apple to rush to install 5G modems in the iPhone. It should be noted that a number of Android device manufacturers do not intend to wait even for next year and are ready to release 5G models as early as this year.

But according to Lynx Equity Strategies, Apple has enough problems with the iPhone beyond 5G. Despite efforts made, including price reductions in some markets, Cupertino residents are having difficulty selling off inventory. Because of this, experts reduced the forecast for annual iPhone shipments in quantitative terms by 8% - from 188 million to 173 million units. At the same time, expected revenue from the sale of smartphones decreased by 10,1% - from $143,5 billion to $129 billion.
