Android 11 will be able to distinguish between types of 5G networks

The first stable build of Android 11 is likely to be released to the public soon. Developer Preview 4 was released earlier this month, and today Google has updated the page describing innovations in the operating system, adding a lot of new information. Among other things, the company announced new options for displaying the type of 5G network used.

Android 11 will be able to distinguish between three types of fifth generation networks. However, this information will only be useful to those who know the differences between them. In addition to the LTE and LTE+ icons, the new operating system has received 5G, 5G+ and 5Ge icons. The most interesting thing is that the 5Ge icon has nothing to do with fifth generation networks, but only denotes an improved fourth generation LTE Advanced Pro standard that supports data transfer at speeds up to 3 Gb / s. Thus, the system somewhat misleads subscribers of a number of mobile operators using advanced LTE networks.

But the 5G and 5G + icons will be displayed when using full-fledged fifth-generation networks. The 5G label is for networks operating in the sub-6 GHz frequency range, while 5G+ will be displayed when operating on networks with higher data rates, which are nevertheless susceptible to any, even the smallest interference.
