Android Studio 4.0 and Android 11 beta 1 presentation announcement

A stable release of Android Studio 4.0, an integrated development environment (IDE) for working with the Android platform, has taken place. Along with this announcement, Google distributed invitation for developers on online presentation Android 11 beta 1, which will take place on June 3, 2020. List of changes in the development environment:

Design changes:

  • Motion Editor - a new tool for creating animation (movement of objects)
  • Layout Inspector - updated tool, with easier visual control of the user interface
  • Layout Validation - a new tool for comparing the appearance of an application on devices with different screens

Development changes:

  • CPU Profiler - optimized interface to simplify performance analysis
  • R8 - update highlighting and syntax checking schemes
  • Internal optimization using updated IntelliJ IDEA 2019.3.3
  • Clang support

Build changes:

  • Build Analyzer extended with regression tracking
  • Java 8+ support for older Android development
  • Basic support for Kotlin DSL scripts (KTS)
