NVIDIA Ampere Announcement Postponed to September Following Computex 2020

NVIDIA management, in a rather unusual form, yesterday openly mentioned the imminence of the announcement of new products that will begin to affect revenue in the current quarter. We were talking about mobile graphics solutions, but the new generation of desktop video cards will be presented at Computex in September.

NVIDIA Ampere Announcement Postponed to September Following Computex 2020

The organizers of one of the most important computer exhibitions for the industry were recently forced to announce that they were postponing Computex 2020 from the beginning of June to the end of September, and the duration of the event was being reduced from five to three days. For businessmen who are accustomed to meeting during Computex on a traditional schedule in June, the organizers will hold a series of online events at the usual time.

Agency Bloomberg puts forward a rather bold hypothesis that NVIDIA's CFO's confidence in the company's ability to maintain fiscal first-quarter revenue at January forecast levels is based on several factors. Firstly, there is a growing demand for gaming systems and services, since in conditions of self-isolation, users inevitably spend more time playing games. According to NVIDIA's own research, at the height of quarantine in China, gamers devoted one and a half times more time to their hobby than usual, and this trend is now spreading to Western countries.

Secondly, the same global processes lead to an increase in demand for server systems. NVIDIA equips them with its GPUs, and although the impact of this market segment on total revenue is not so high, it is constantly increasing. Thirdly, the authors of the publication on the pages of Bloomberg are convinced that the Ampere generation graphics solutions will enter the market this year and will offer a noticeable increase in performance compared to their predecessors, and this allows NVIDIA to look confidently into the near future in terms of the dynamics of financial indicators.

Site representatives TweakTown put forward their own scenario for the development of events. NVIDIA refused to announce Ampere on the GTC 2020 stage at the end of March, along with holding the event in its usual form. Now, by mid-summer, it can formally introduce professional graphics adapters from the Quadro family using the Ampere architecture, and by September, unveil the first gaming video cards of the new generation. The end of September, to which Computex 2020 has been postponed, makes this exhibition a good platform for such a debut. Representatives of the press may be notified of the characteristics of the new products around August. This schedule is also good because it maintains the rhythm of the debuts of NVIDIA graphic architectures - two years have passed since the announcement of Turing.
