Apache OpenOffice hits 333 million downloads

The developers of the Apache OpenOffice office suite reported that the project has overcome the milestone of 333 million downloads (according to SourceForge statistics - 352 million) made since the first release of Apache OpenOffice in May 2012. The milestone of 300 million downloads was reached at the end of October 2020, 200 million at the end of November 2016, and 100 million in April 2014.

The statistics include downloads for all editions from Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 to 4.1.13. Of the 333 million downloads, 297.9 million are builds for the Windows platform, 31.6 million are macOS, and 4.7 million are Linux. Apache OpenOffice is most popular in the US (55M), France (44M), Germany (35M), Italy (28M), Spain (17M), and Russia (15M).

Despite the stagnation of the project, the popularity of Apache OpenOffice remains palpable, with about 50 copies of Apache OpenOffice still being downloaded every day. The popularity of Apache OpenOffice is comparable to LibreOffice, for example, the release of Apache OpenOffice 4.1.13 scored 424 thousand downloads in the first week, 574 thousand in the second week, and 1.7 million in the month, while LibreOffice 7.3.0 received 675 thousand downloads in the first week once.
