A new leak reveals that the iPhone 12 series smartphones will be Apple's last phones with a Lightning connector. As a user under the pseudonym Fudge, who previously published high-quality renderings of the iPhone 12, reports on his Twitter account, in 2021 the Californian tech giant will release smartphones that will use the new Smart Connector.
In addition, the insider claims that Apple tested iPhone 12 series smartphones with a USB Type-C connector, but in the end decided not to change the proprietary Lightning port. The company is reportedly looking to remove connectors and most of the physical buttons on the iPhone to minimize potential hardware issues.
Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the 2021 flagship iPhone will use exclusively wireless interfaces to communicate with the outside world. Charging is expected to be possible only with Qi-enabled wireless stations. Smart Connector will only be used to connect external accessories and restore device software.
Apple introduced the first version of the Smart Connector back in 2015 with the iPad Pro line of professional tablets. In 2018, along with an updated family of tablets, the second generation of the interface was shown.
