Apple denies the development of Safari based on Chromium

Today, browsers based on Chrome and Chromium occupy about 80% of the market. The only independent project is Firefox. And recently appeared information that Apple may also migrate its Safari browser to Google's engine.

Apple denies the development of Safari based on Chromium

This data is based on a proposal to enable Intelligent Tracking Prevention in a future version of Chromium 80. Given that IPT is a proprietary feature of Safari, the assumption seems logical. However, it has now become known that this is not a confirmation of the intention to move.

Maciej Stachowiak of the Apple WebKit team reports that the Cupertino-based company has no intention of abandoning WebKit in favor of Chromium. He clarified on Twitter that there are no plans for the transition, and screenshots and other information are faked or incorrect.

In fact, this approach is very good, because it creates competition. Against the background of the imminent appearance of the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge, only Firefox and Safari remain as a "counterweight" to Google's monopoly. And competition, as you know, forces manufacturers to improve their products with an eye on other market participants.
