Research firm TrendForce has shared details about the iPad Pro and Mac's expected transition to mini LED backlit displays in their products. Apple is likely to introduce a 2021-inch iPad Pro with a mini LED screen in the first quarter of 12,9, according to analysts.
The report says that simultaneously with the launch of the new tablet, Apple will start looking for suppliers for mini LED displays, which will be used in the 16-inch and new 14-inch MacBook Pro. New mini LED backlit displays promise wider color gamut, high contrast ratios, wide dynamic range and local dimming support.
It is also believed that smaller LEDs will make panels thinner and more energy efficient, while such screens are not as prone to the “burn-in” effect as OLED. It is thanks to these advantages that Apple is betting on mini LED in its future products.
TrendForce noted that Apple is likely to rely primarily on Taiwanese mini LED display manufacturers to reduce reliance on Chinese companies: by Taiwanese manufacturers to mitigate the risks of possible business impacts from a trade war between the US and China.”
