Ahead of this year's Earth Day event on April 22, Apple announced a number of improvements to its recycling initiatives, including expanding its device recycling program.
Whereas previously, within the framework of the exchange and recycling program, called GiveBack, it was possible to hand over smartphones only in Apple Stores, now they will be accepted at Best Buy points in the USA and KPN retail stores in the Netherlands. Thanks to this, the network of Apple device collection points has expanded four times. In addition, the service was renamed to Apple Trade In.
The company also announced the opening of the Material Recovery Lab in Texas to develop new recycling technologies for old gadgets. The laboratory is located in Austin on an area of ββ9000 sq. feet (836 m2).
