The most striking innovation was the updated home screen with widgets. They are the same as in the Notification Center. Apple has also added more options for multitasking, including in the form of gestures. This allows you to switch between multiple applications and drag and drop applications that are nearby.

Separately, it is noted that this will be an independent OS, and not ported from smartphones. At the same time, the logic of work, interface, etc. will be similar. iPadOS also received an improved Files app with a look similar to Finder in macOS. iCloud Drive now supports folder sharing, and the app is additionally able to work with SMB network folders. Finally, Files has added support for flash drives, external drives, and SD memory cards. In general, everything that Android has been able to do for many years.

Apple has also improved its Safari browser for iPadOS. In particular, he received a full-fledged download manager, new keyboard shortcuts, the ability to customize the display of each site individually, and so on.

iPadOS solved the problem of the lack of third-party fonts. Now they are in the App Store, so you just need to download them and install them on your tablet. Apple has also improved the copy and paste feature on iPadOS. Now the β€œpinch” can be performed with three fingers.

Of the little things, we note the addition for the Apple Pencil. The stylus now works faster - the delay has decreased from 20ms to 9ms. And the standard tool palette is also available for third-party applications. In general, we can say that the company has moved away from a "smartphone" OS to a completely independent product. Given that Cupertino is positioning the iPad as a replacement for a laptop, this is quite a logical step.

The iPadOS Developer Preview is available now to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com, and the public beta will be available to iPadOS users later this month at beta.apple.com. iPadOS will be official this fall and will be available for iPad Air 2 and later, all iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 4 and later.
