Apple plans to build iPhone SE in India

iPhone SE, introduced in mid-April, is Apple's most affordable device. In the US, the base price starts at $399, while in many other regions, smartphone prices are much higher due to local taxes. For example, in India, the iPhone SE is sold for $159 more. This may change soon as Apple is rumored to be planning to start assembling the device in that country.

Apple plans to build iPhone SE in India

India is one of the world's largest centers for the production of smartphones and other electronics. Many devices of world famous brands are assembled in India. As for Apple, part of the first generation iPhone SE was also manufactured in India at Wistron factories. The situation will repeat itself with the second generation of the smartphone, according to a report from The Information.

According to the leak, Apple asked one of its suppliers to ship some of the components for the iPhone SE to India, to Wistron factories. However, when the assembly will begin is still unknown.

For Apple, this move is very profitable. The company won't have to pay huge import duties and can also take advantage of a new production incentive scheme introduced by the Indian government a few days ago. On the other hand, the price of the iPhone SE for Indian buyers could drop significantly.
