Apple plans to significantly increase the number of employees who will work at its new facility in Seattle. The company said at a press conference on Monday that there will be 2024 new jobs by 2000, twice the number previously announced.
New vacancies will focus on software and hardware. Apple currently has about 500 employees in Seattle, mostly in retail stores and a machine learning center. The expansion will give Apple a significant footprint in Washington State, where competitors Amazon and Microsoft also have offices.
To accommodate the new workforce, Apple is leasing two 12-story buildings. Apple and Amazon won't be the only tech companies around, as Google and Facebook plan to expand in close proximity to their offices.
