Apple on Friday launched a program to replace defective Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR smartphones.
According to the company, some Smart Battery Cases may experience charging issues, including cases where the device does not recharge or charges intermittently when connected to a power source, or cases where the iPhone itself does not charge or charges intermittently.
The defective Smart Battery Cases were manufactured between January 2019 and October. All Smart Battery Cases designed for iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR manufactured within the specified times are eligible for replacement. Apple emphasized that only the cases listed above are eligible for replacement under the program, which means that an accessory for iPhone 11, 11 Pro, or 11 Pro Max models is not eligible for replacement under these conditions.
Apple emphasized that the defect in the Smart Battery Case does not pose a security risk. As part of the program, Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will replace a defective accessory free of charge.
This program is valid for Smart Battery Cases for two years after the device is first sold at retail.
