ASRock has released key specifications for several of AMD's upcoming next generation processors. We are talking about hybrid processors of the Picasso family, which will be presented in the Ryzen, Ryzen PRO and Athlon series - that is, about the younger models of the new generation.
Like other next-generation APUs, the novelties will be built on cores with the Zen + architecture and will receive integrated Vega graphics. Novelties are produced at the facilities of GlobalFoundries using a 12-nm process technology. Due to a more advanced process technology, as well as some architectural improvements, the Picasso family of chips should provide slightly higher performance than their Raven Ridge generation predecessors.
Hybrid processors of the PRO series do not differ from conventional models in terms of technical characteristics, and, accordingly, their performance will be at about the same level. The difference between the PRO-series processors is the use of higher quality crystals, as well as a higher level of security and a longer warranty. Also, APU data should have an extended life cycle.
In turn, hybrid processors with the suffix "GE" in the name differ from conventional models with the letter "G" in the name by reduced power consumption. Their TDP level does not exceed 35 watts. Accordingly, their performance will be somewhat lower than that of conventional models.
Unfortunately, ASRock only lists the base clock speeds for AMD's new Picasso generation APUs. All models are 100 MHz higher than the predecessors of the Raven Ridge generation. Most likely, Turbo frequencies will grow somewhat stronger, but at the moment there is no data on them. We also assume that the frequencies of the integrated graphics will also increase. But the configuration of the cores, both processor and graphics, will not change. The announcement of new products can be expected quite soon.
