ASUS Brings Ryzen 3000 Support to Most of Its Socket AM4 Boards

Preparations for the release of AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors are in full swing, because there is less and less time left before their release. And ASUS, as one of the stages of this preparation, has released BIOS updates with support for new chips for many of its current motherboards with Socket AM4.

ASUS, through new BIOS versions, has added support for the upcoming 7nm Ryzen 3000 processors to 35 of its motherboards at once. In fact, these are all consumer models of the company based on AMD B350, X370, B450 and X470 chipsets. Unfortunately, ASUS did not go into details about the features of the updates and what they will bring to the boards, apart from support for new chips.

Therefore, it will be much more important to note that ASUS boards based on the junior AMD A320 system logic did not receive support for the new Ryzen 3000 processors. Note that there have already been leaks earlier, according to which the new 7nm AMD processors and the A320 chipset will be incompatible. Moreover, other motherboard manufacturers have not yet made their low-end models based on AMD A320 compatible with 7nm AMD processors. And if there really is no compatibility, then this will violate AMD's promise to support all new processors on any motherboards with Socket AM4 until 2020.

Many have suggested that Ryzen 3000 and AMD A320 compatibility will be hindered by weak power subsystems on motherboards based on this chipset. However, 7nm processors, on the contrary, should be distinguished by lower power consumption, and at least the younger representatives of the new family should be able to accept current entry-level boards.

Another limiting factor is the amount of memory in the BIOS chip. Boards with 128 Mb of BIOS memory simply cannot contain all the data to ensure operation with all chips under Socket AM4. Recall that not so long ago, just because of a lack of memory, support for the Bristol Ridge APU was removed from some boards in the new BIOS.

However, hope, as you know, is the last to die. ASUS, like MSI before, said it is working on expanding the list of motherboards that can accept Ryzen 3000 processors. The companies continue to test, so it is possible that at least some motherboards on the A320 will receive support for new AMD processors in one form or another.
