ASUS showcases gaming laptop version at Computex 2019
Among the main disadvantages due to which ASUS is questioning the advisability of equipping laptops with OLED panels right now are screen burn-in, color accuracy over a long period of time, and generally less service life than IPS. As soon as these issues are resolved, ASUS is willing to mass-produce gaming laptops with OLED displays, the company assured.
Note that OLED screens have been successfully used in smartphones for quite a long time, and there have been no serious complaints about matrix burn-in from their owners. However, this is easily explained: the specifics of smartphone operation is such that static objects are rarely displayed on its screen for a long time. With laptops, the situation is different: various interface elements, such as the taskbar, are often present in front of the user's eyes all the time. Also, while OLEDs offer fast response times, they can blur images in dynamic scenes in games due to image retention.
