Audacity 3.1.0

New version of free audio editor released Audacity.

Changes:

  • Instead of a clip moving tool in the timeline, each clip now has a drag-and-drop title.
  • Added non-destructive trimming of clips by dragging the right or left edge.
  • The playback of a segment in a loop has been redesigned, now the ruler has editable loop boundaries.
  • Added context menu under RMB.
  • Removed hard linking to local versions of a number of libraries, making it easier to build for Linux distributions.

The policy of the Muse Group has not changed since the release of the previous version in July: both automatically querying the server for the availability of a new version and sending crash reports to developers are optional features. They are disabled by default when building from source. In ready-made builds, update checking is disabled in the settings, and crash reports can simply not be sent.

Support for non-destructive effects is planned for the next major updates, as well as the integration of two projects from this year's GSoC: spectral brush and splitting the mix into sources (the composition mixed into one file is loaded and using a machine learning engine is divided back into components, for example, drums, bass , guitar, piano, vocals). Both GSoC projects have been successfully completed, but need some work. Student reports with details, screenshots and more can be read in project blog.
