Toyota and Lexus cars in Russia will receive a unique anti-theft identifier

The Japanese corporation Toyota announced that during this year all cars of the brand and the Lexus subsidiary brand sold in Russia will receive a unique anti-theft identifier.

It is noted that modern Toyota and Lexus models are equipped with a whole range of anti-theft systems, including immobilizers, non-volatile alarm sirens, vehicle tilt and tow sensors, interior volume sensors, rear door glass break sensors, central locks with double blocking and motion sensors in the key fob.

However, these technical means can only complicate the process of hijacking, but do not eliminate the economic attractiveness of this type of criminal activity.

Therefore, the Japanese automaker is introducing new technology. It is called T-Mark on Toyota vehicles and L-Mark on Lexus vehicles.

The essence of the solution is as follows. Many elements of the vehicle are marked with a special marking in the form of microdots with a diameter of 1 mm. Their total number reaches 10 thousand, and the exact location map is known only to the automaker.

The microdots are unique to each vehicle as they contain an individual PIN code linked to the VIN number. The PIN code can only be read at 60x magnification: directly on the vehicle using a portable microscope, or by separating one of the marked areas from the body and using a conventional microscope.

On special Toyota and Lexus online services, you can enter a PIN code and get guaranteed reliable information about the car: the VIN number and such distinguishing features as the engine and transmission model, exterior and interior colors, and equipment. When purchasing a new Toyota or Lexus car, the buyer receives a certificate of a unique anti-theft identifier, which contains the VIN number and PIN code of the car, as well as samples of microdots.

It is assumed that the introduction of technology will reduce the interest of car thieves in Toyota and Lexus cars. It is the VIN number that, as a rule, is changed by criminals in order to "legalize" a stolen car and its subsequent resale in the secondary market. The ability to quickly verify data at the time of purchase on the secondary market and establish the true history and parameters of the car makes it very difficult to sell a stolen vehicle.
