The authors of Oxenfree created a mobile game based on "Very strange things" with the money of Telltale Games

Telltale Games Studio closed, and with it the Stranger Things project based on the Netflix series. But there was another game in the franchise - from the Night School studio, the authors of Oxenfree.

The developer project Oxenfree was funded by Telltale Games along with its own game. Unfortunately, it is unlikely to ever be released, since the closure of the creators of The Walking Dead: The Game and The Wolf Among Us simply cut off the flow of resources. The unfinished Night School Studios game based on Stranger Things was a mobile, first-person game. You could transfer the saved data from it to the Telltale Games project - they were linked. “We love the games they made and wanted to make a mobile game that connects with our own,” said a former Telltale Games employee. Another source said that Telltale Games CEO Pete Hawley felt that the studio's game formula was outdated, and bringing in another developer to experiment was not a risky venture.

Night School Studio is known for its atmospheric indie games like Oxenfree and forthcoming afterparty. But she has created a mobile video game based on the series before - based on "Mr. Robot". A Stranger Things project could be something special. Sources from Night School Studio said it was their dream game, as it was made with promising access to intellectual property and its creators, the Duffer brothers.

Unfortunately, the dream was not destined to come true, because at the same time, Telltale Games was barely afloat. “No one warned us,” one source said as Telltale Games closed. “We had no idea that something was wrong. And no one on the team, no one we dealt with, knew.”

“Our project was literally immediately thrown into limbo, and not based on its quality, not on the basis of how long we were in production, but only because the company that financed it was in a desperate situation,” said a source from Night School Studio. Right now, the studio's game is still in limbo. It was not officially canceled, however, as it was not announced. "The game just evaporated," one source told The Verge.
