After re-releases of the first and second Halo for the Master Chief Collection, the team wanted to create something big. Matthew Kerch contacted Valve CEO Gabe Newell directly and asked for permission. He knew the director of the studio and dreamed of making a remake of Half-Life 2. The head of Saber Interactive was so excited about the idea that he was not even going to take remuneration for his work. But Gabe Newell replied: β€œSorry, if we do this, it will be on our own.”

Curiously, the remake of the first Half-Life is created by enthusiasts and is called Black Mesa. Valve allowed such a project, but did not trust Saber Interactive to develop the second part. Perhaps the creators of Steam really have such plans. We remind you: the cult Half-Life 2 was released back in 2004 on the PC.
