Banking Android Trojan Cerberus to be auctioned off

The hacker group behind the Cerberus banking trojan targeting Android devices intends to sell the entire project in an auction of sorts. The initial cost of the lot, which includes everything from source code and a list of clients to installation guides and scripts for component collaboration, is estimated at $50. At the same time, hackers are ready to give the entire project without bidding for $100.

Banking Android Trojan Cerberus to be auctioned off

For about a year, the group behind the Cerberus malware advertised their creation and rented out the bot for $12 a year. It was also proposed to purchase a license for shorter time periods. According to a message posted by a Trojan seller on one of the underground forums, Cerberus currently brings in $10 monthly. The reason for the sale is that the Cerberus team has disbanded, and its members no longer have time for around-the-clock support of the Trojan. Therefore, it was decided to get rid of the entire project at once, including the current client base, their contacts and the list of potential buyers.

According to some cybersecurity experts, a $100 price tag for malware like Cerberus is likely to attract the attention of sophisticated hackers who can not only keep the malware running, but further develop it.

Cerberus malware has a rich set of features, and one of its features is the ability to determine whether it is running on a real device or sandboxed. Among its features, it is worth highlighting the ability to create fake bank notifications that encourage the victim to enter login data, as well as the ability to intercept one-time two-factor authentication codes.
