Free upgrade to Windows 10 is still available to users

Microsoft officially ended the free upgrade option for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 in December 2017. Despite this, there have been reports on the Internet that even now some users who have Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 with an official license are able to upgrade the software platform to Windows 10 for free.

It is worth saying that this method only works when using already activated versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, but is not suitable for the initial installation of Windows 10. To download the free update, you will need to download the Media Creation Tool utility on your PC and use it by specifying the product key when the program requires it.

One of the visitors to the Reddit site, who identified himself as a Microsoft engineer, confirmed that a free upgrade to Windows 10 remains available. He also noted that the free operating system update program is a kind of advertising ploy aimed at ensuring that Microsoft customers quickly switch to Windows 10.

It seems that Microsoft is not very interested in depriving users of the opportunity to upgrade the OS for free using the utility mentioned earlier. This may mean that this method will remain relevant until the official end of support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020. Recall that the program for free updating of legal copies of Windows was launched by Microsoft in 2015 and lasted until the end of 2017.
