Windows 10 beta gets support for third-party voice assistants

This fall, Windows 10 19H2 update is expected to be released, which will have quite a few innovations. However, one of them is very curious, because we are talking about use of third-party voice assistants on the OS lock screen.

Windows 10 beta gets support for third-party voice assistants

This feature is already in build 18362.10005, which was released in Slow Ring. At the same time, it is noted that the list includes Alexa from Amazon and the proprietary Cortana system. They can be activated without unlocking the system, including by voice. This is clearly a continuation of the company's policy of deep integration into the voice assistant system.

Back in early 2019, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admitted that Cortana couldn't compete directly with solutions like Alexa or Google Assistant. Therefore, the corporation decided not to fight, but to unite.

The company also intends to make Cortana a completely standalone solution, and not tied to the operating system. Probably, in this way Redmond wants to bring Cortana to mobile devices, as was done with β€œoffice” and other branded applications.

In addition, there are other innovations in the new Insider Assembly, but they are cosmetic in nature. In general, Windows 10 19H2 is not planned as a global update. In fact, it will be a patch with bug fixes and performance improvements. New opportunities will be postponed at least until the spring of next year. Probably, this practice will reduce the number of complaints about failures and generally improve the quality of the code.
